In 2004, Marianna Beck and Jack Hafferkamp, the editors of Libido magazine, put together a film called “Orgasm: Faces of Ecstasy.” The film showed 22 people’s faces as they had orgasms during masturbation, combined with interviews of the subjects before and after their experiences.
The point of the film was to demonstrate how much of sexual experience was evident in people’s faces, absent the body parts and activities so common in commercial pornography.
In 2005, when I was asked to photograph Sadie and Michael being sexual together, it was necessary, due to the nature of Michael’s job, that Michael not be identifiable in any of the photographs.
